North Star Solutions for Chemical
and Dyestuff Processing
North Star flake ice is often used in chemical and dyestuff manufacturing processes that require very rapid cooling and where the addition of ice to the product is not harmful. It is most often used in the manufacturing of certain colors of water soluble and azo dyes, optical brighteners used in soaps, and certain herbicides.
CONSIDERATIONS FOR CHEMICAL AND DYESTUFF MANUFACTURERS
Flake ice is generally preferred for these applications due to the need for very rapid cooling. The thin ice flakes melt quickly providing fast heat transfer for sensitive processes.
Depending on the process, manufacturers can use either stainless steel or carbon steel ice makers. Since large volumes of ice are often required, North Star ice storage systems and delivery systems can also be integrated into the ice plant. Most operations would use pneumatic ice conveying systems that quickly and efficiently move tons of ice to any reactor or vessel throughout the plant in a matter of seconds with just the push of a button. Screw conveyors are available as well and are better suited to shorter deliveries servicing fewer reactors or vessels.
