At Salmones Pacific Sur, also in Puerto Montt, they will process over 35,000 metric tons of salmon this year. The company currently has North Star ice makers with a capacity of 72 tons of ice per day, and according to plant manager, Roberto Ricke, they will double their ice making capacity in the next year.
“We chose North Star equipment because we saw them in other factories and it was demonstrated that they are the best,” said Ricke. “The equipment is easy to use and maintain. You can normally get the ice temperature you need (‐10 Cº) and the shape and size of the ice is good for quickly reducing the temperature of the salmon.” Ricke also added that the availability of good service for preventive maintenance was a great advantage of North Star ice machines.
